The good weather brought a surge of flight over the limestone cliffs to Switzerland. Michael Gebert (GER) has stunned spectators on live tracking by getting into third position overall, after such a dismal start which saw him at the bottom of the pack. RedBull.com

Mountain biking is great fun but it is also physically demanding, and if you take a tumble you’ll want to know you are protected from injury as much as possible. That’s why mountain bike clothing is designed specifically to meet the demands of this sport. If you’re a beginner or just an occasional mountain biker then a pair of comfortable tracksuit bottoms, a long sleeved t-shirt and the obligatory helmet will suffice.

You might also want to put some gloves on to protect your hands. If you’re a regular mountain biker however, it might be worth investing in some proper cycling gear. Comfort, protection and strong breathable fabrics are the watch words to look out for.

These are perhaps the most familiar pieces of mountain bike clothing for most people. When you are buying this kind of mountain bike clothing you’ll find that they’re mostly made from microfleece or quick dry fabrics. Check for sales before buying expensive clothing, just like you saved on your 123inkjets coupon, you can save on biking gear. Cycle shorts are usually double layered around the seat area for comfort. You’ll be glad of this feature during those bumpy cross country mountain bike rides.

These can often be an overlooked area of mountain bike clothing, but they are essential to help avoid blisters and protect your hands in the event of a fall. You’ll often find the backs of the best cycling gloves are aerated for comfort, while the palms will be double layered leather for better protection.

There’s nothing quite like splashing through muddy puddles during a downhill run on your mountain bike, but you’ll enjoy it more if your mountain bike clothing keeps at least some of the elements off you.

You might think a standard set of waterproofs would be fine for cycling, but you’ll be a lot more comfortable wearing mountain bike clothing that is specific for the job. Cycling waterproofs will be much lighter and more breathable than standard ones, and will still allow for complete freedom of movement.

The best waterproof mountain bike clothing folds and rolls down into a small light bag that can be stowed away in a backpack in case it’s needed. You’ll want to travel light when you’re mountain biking, and proper mountain bike clothing makes life a lot easier in this respect.

Finally, if you are likely to be out biking along dirt roads during the evening, you might want to invest in some reflective gear as well. Making sure you’ll be seen is an integral part of all good mountain bike clothing.

The NBR/PVC foam exercise mat is your best choice. It is also called rubber foam exercise mat. NBR is a kind of treated nature rubber and comes out excellent features after foaming with PVC together.

Question: What is Liesel’s “mountain” in “The Book Thief” by Markus Zusak?
I have an in-class essay to write in tomorrow, about the symbolism used in this quote:” They read through the early hours of morning, circling and writing the words she did not comprehend and
turning the pages toward daylight. A few times, Papa nearly slept, succumbing to the itchy fatigue in his eyes
and the wilting of his head. Liesel caught him out on each occasion, but she had neither the selflessness to allow
him to sleep nor the hide to be offended. She was a girl with a mountain to climb.” If you have read “The Book Thief” and know about the conflicts and style Zusak includes in the book, please help me to answer: 1. what is the mountain? what does it symbolize? 2. who are her climbing partners ( who accompanies her/helps her/is involved in her “ascent” up the “mountain”) 3. what is her greatest obstacle? 4. which point does she reach the summit of her mountain? 5. describe her descent. What does she discover at the foot of her mountain? And finally, how does this relate to our society as a whole? I thought that the mountain might describe the challenge learning to read, but the summit is unclear, when she might master reading, and her descent, well, she doesn’t “unlearn” how to read, but maybe as she gains increased understanding her challenge reading decreases and the foot of her mountain might be when reading is a natural thing and she is back at normal life, but the mountain she has climbed is behind her. What are your thoughts on this? The instructor did say that there were multiple responses as long as I can back them up I can get full credit. Please respond sorry I wrote so much already.

Question: If you go mountain climbing do you need to spend time in a pressure chamber?
A friend and I were discussing changes in pressure when he blurted out “that’s why you have to go into a pressure chamber when you go mountain climbing.” Now I have never heard of this and said that really doesn’t make to much sense, but then again I have never gone mountain climbing so I don’t know. So I put the question to you. Are their pressure changes on mountains?

Answer:

Answer by Cody
No, most high altitude mountaineers do not use pressure chambers to prepare for climbs. They are too expensive for most people and their benefits have been shown to be not that impressive. To acclimate to high altitudes (low atmospheric pressures), climbers spend a long time on the route, from several days to several weeks depending on altitude and experience. This allows them to slowly acclimate and allows their bodies to build red blood cells to deal with the lower oxygen levels.

Pictures taken during an ascent of Mt. Rainier in 1984. Dwarfed in some of the pictures, you will notice the rope team starting from base camp in early afternoon. In the summer the ascent involves getting to a high camp by sundown, getting a good 6-7 hours of sleep and starting the last leg to the summit at 4:00 am to ensure the round trip happens before the ice bridges get warmed by the sun. In the closing pictures you see the rope team on the last push to the top and a majestic sunrise from 13.000 feet. The white-cap in the distance is Mt. Adams.
