Question: Are there any spelunking or caving areas on the coast near Los Angeles?
I’m trying to find a place to go in the Los Angeles area (or within an hour or two drive from the city/suburbs) where you can go both caving (preferably spelunking or somewhere with a decent amount of adventure/difficulty) and then also go to the beach without a great deal of travel. Are there any locations, or is there anywhere along the California coast that would offer the cave/beach opportunities?

This looks like a job for GeographyMan!

Most caves are formed by water flowing through rock. In case you haven’t noticed, we don’t get much rain here, so we don’t have a lot of lakes, rivers, etc. We especially don’t have underwater rivers, which is what forms caves.

So, in a word, the answer is “no”.

Question: Spelunking, some questions for people who know what there doing?
I will be going Spelunking in Il and WI in the next week. I ‘ve never done this beofor and i’ll be sleeping in the caves. The average temperature in a cave will be around 59 degrees. Dress should be easy (old jeans, old sweatshirt, old hiking boots). As far as a sleeping pad I’d say any kind will work out for you, long as it keeps you off the ground, which will suck the heat right out of your body.

I live in PA and I’d really like to go spelunking. I’m not having much luck lookin up info on the internet, so I’m wondering if anyone here knows anything about the subject (as in- where I can do it) I’m sure I’d have to travel at least a little outside the state to find a place, but I don’t want to have to go to another country or sth!
